                                                              Vietnam has maintained its longstanding position among
                                                              countries and territories attracting the most FDI despite
                                                              the travails of the last two years. Since the first Law on
                                                              Foreign Investment came into being in the late 1980s, the
                                                              capital source has proven invaluable for Vietnam’s
                                                              socio-economic development. A focus on quality rather
                                                              quantity has been in place for some time, and sustain-
                                                              ability is now the key buzzword. Much has been done to
                                                              facilitate foreign investment, and efforts at reform are
                                                              ongoing. While Vietnam benefits from foreign capital, it
                                                              can’t be denied that the country is also a happy hunting
                                                              ground for many foreign investors.
